Is it too late?

Oct 09, 2022

No, it’s NOT too late! .

I know that’s what we tend to think when we are 30, 40, 50, or even 70 and haven’t yet accomplished the one goal we thought would be the best accomplishment of our lives! Have you ever felt like “it” will just NEVER happen? Well, God doesn’t stop doing His good work in us just because we are growing in our earthly years! It’s never too late to accomplish goals!

It never crossed my mind that I’d be attending graduations of two 70+ year old family members within a year of each other! The crazy thing is, they didn’t just graduate!! They BOTH graduated at the top of their classes achieving their Doctorate Degrees! Can you imagine?? My mom, Pastor Sharpe, graduated last year with her Doctorate of Christian Ministry along with the honor of being Valedictorian of her class! Then to top it off, my Father-in-Love graduated last month with his Doctorate of Divinity with a 4.0 summa cum laude. Yea, I know, you are probably thinking, where does that happen? Well, it happens when God is in it! They give me so much inspiration, especially given my struggle with my education goals over the past few years.

I’ve got $40,000 in student loans and still haven’t accomplished my degree goals. There were days that I let that reality pull me into a dark place. I had given up thinking I’m way too old to even go back to school and finish. My credits are old as dust! Will they even transfer???

The human I am tends to internalize things and convince myself that its only “me.” The truth of the matter is, there are so many of us out there going through this same struggle. In 2017 I decided I wouldn’t allow the fact that I didn’t obtain the degree to define me or make or break who I am. Once I understood whose I am, God began to speak to my heart about worship and education. He said NOW! So, I ran full speed ahead and then boom, brick wall! I owed my previous school $3000 and, in my mind, there was no way I could come up with that kind of money before the soon coming semester or even the next one for that matter. But God said “Trust ME!” So, I did! I changed my mindset and thought well maybe you can’t go this semester or even next but, do the work and prepare. I called the school to make arrangements for an affordable payment plan and I nearly fell off my seat when they told me the system is showing a $400 balance. Long story short, I paid that immediately, got everything in order and immediately enrolled in Liberty University’s Worship Studies Degree Program!

Here I am at 44, doing it! They did it at 70+ and so can you! Every time I feel pressure, I am reminded of my mom and father-in-love who rocked it at 70 and walked across that stage degree in hand! Look at them!!! My mom had a stroke in her 40’s and still has problems remembering things and she was hesitant to even try but she did it with God’s help!

“You are NEVER too old to achieve your goals, and it is never too late to just do IT!”

Whatever IT is, go for it! Tell your tribe what’s on your heart. Ask them to be your accountability for your goal. Your true friends will push you to get there! God is still working in you! He doesn’t give up because we gave up! You can do whatever it is you have always wanted to accomplish. Fear is not an option. Failure is part of life so just get back up and do it again! Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
